Kevin is happy that neither him nor Scotty had to get up early that day. There were no clock’s going off, that could have awoken Justin from his deep sleep, before he was ready to wake up. Kevin woke up from his own internal clock telling him he’s hungry, therefore it must be around 8 in the morning.
He notices that Justin is no longer really clinging to him. Justin doesn’t feel as hot anymore either, but what makes Kevin smile the most is that he now notices how, during the night, Justin has turned to Scotty and that he is now in Scotty’s arms, feeling pretty well protected there, judging by the calm look on his face.
Kevin slips out of bed, planning to make some breakfast for Justin and Scotty. He takes one more look at his sleeping husband and also at his brother, so at ease. And then he goes into the kitchen. First thing he does is call Nora. Knowing his mom, she’ll be on his door-step in no time and he needs to avoid that.
“Yes, mom, don’t worry. Justin will be alright... I will talk to him and we’ll see... I know that you want to come over here and crush your son with your undying love, but right now, he’s asleep and calm, sober and clean. Well, not so clean, but all sweaty, but no drugs, no booze. Trust him, mom, give him space...
Something in the house has triggered him, maybe the memory of Fawn in the garden or the kitchen. I don’t know. Neither does he, I think, but if he does know what it is, he’ll talk. Just let him be for now...” Kevin keeps talking until Nora promises him not to do anything until Justin calls her and Kevin, grateful, hangs up, and prepares breakfast.
The first thing Justin is aware of, is that he‘s very comfortable where he is. The bed is soft. He feels warm, not cold. Slowly it seeps in that he is lying against someone. Someone with a harder structure than the average woman... He vaguely remembers that he showed up at Kevin’s place yesterday... Of course, Kevin.... That makes sense.
He lifts his head to see if Kevin is awake, when he realizes that it is not Kevin he is holding... He quickly moves away from Scotty, startled by the discovery. And his action causes Scotty to wake up.
“Justin...” Scotty says groggily. “How are you? Feeling better?”
Justin is shocked. He knows he wasn’t drunk or stoned last night. So how did he end up with Scotty?
“How did I end up here?”
“You walked in, looking lost and you told Kevin that you were a big boy, but didn’t want to be alone..” Scotty replies honestly.
Justin looks stunned, but he knows the hidden meaning of Scotty’s words.
“Oh,... I see.... Did I sleep with Kevin?”
“Yes, you nearly crawled into him. In a strictly platonic way. You were very feverish and tired.”
“Kevin and I ... It must have looked weird... We never did anything. He never touched me... It’s just...”
“I know, he told me last night. He wanted me to stay”
“Good.” Justin says. “I don’t want any misunderstandings between you two because of me.”
“There aren’t. Don’t worry.” Scotty laughs. “Kevin, however, is missing and if my nose doesn’t make a mistake, he’s preparing breakfast. How about some coffee?”
“Fine with me.... Scotty? I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t mean to push myself on you like that.” Justin timidly says. And Scotty doubts that Justin knows what happened with him and Mark, so Justin’s apology touches him deeply. The poor boy has nothing to be sorry about. So Scotty smiles gently.
“Don’t worry. There a people who ‘pushed themselves’ on me in far worst ways. I... uh... I feel a bit flattered, that you have enough confidence in me to let me hold you.” They now both smile, slightly embarrassed.
“I think I could really use a shower.” Justin waves his hand at the shower.
“Yes, you could.” Scotty teases. “I’ll get you some of my clothes to wear. And I’ll tell Kevin, so he can delay breakfast a bit.” He turns towards to the kitchen, when Justin stops him.
“Scotty? Thank you.... For everything.”
Tommy sits down next to Julia on the bathroom-floor.
“Entire breakfast.” Julia replies, white as a sheet.
“Oh... You look awful.”
“Thank you. You know how to make a girl feel better.” Julia grins through her discomfort. Tommy can be such a lovely dork sometimes.
“Sorry. I mean, it must be so hard... How long do you think you’re pregnant?”
“About 8 weeks or so, the doctor thinks. Why?”
“Oh, nothing, I just tried to figure out what had worked this time. It must be the sex we had right before you left for your parents.”
“Yeah, I guess.” Julia replies vaguely, she starts to feel uneasy. As if there’s something that Tommy knows and she doesn’t.
For a moment she toys with the idea that Tommy found out about her night with Domenic, but she dismisses the thought. Tommy had no way of knowing. Domenic wouldn’t tell anyone and neither would she. No, this baby, the one they both wanted so badly, is Tommy’s. It has to be.
Tommy wraps his arms around her, he feels like throwing up himself, but for different reasons. He loves her so much. How can he accuse of having an affair? How can he tell her that he is not the man she needs? How can he tell her, that he knows, that there had to have been someone else.
They are about to have dinner when there’s a knock on the door and Justin, Scotty and Kevin freeze.
“Mom?” Justin asks, a worried look at Kevin.
“She promised me she wouldn’t.” Justin jumps up and checks through the peep-hole.
“A man I don’t recognize.” Justin says.
“Oh! Foolish me!” Kevin suddenly replies. “Jordan!” He opens the door to let Jordan in and before Jordan can even say hello, Kevin eagerly asks: “Well what did they say? How did it go?”
“Perfect!” Jordan replies, beaming with joy. Scotty looks confused at the both of them as Jordan, after giving a hug to Kevin, proceeds to hug Scotty.
“Hi, I’m Jordan.” Jordan introduces himself to Justin.
“Justin Walker. I’m Kevin’s brother.” Justin smiles.
“Jordan is a friend of mine, I thought I had lost and who I ran into again not long ago...” Scotty explains. “A friend who has so far not told me what he is doing here?”
“Kevin called me this morning. Very, very early.” He gives Kevin a stern look, but Kevin only laughs it away. “And guess what? He said he might have a job for me.”
“He does?” Scotty looks at Kevin. Why didn’t Kevin discuss this with him?
“I just thought about it this morning while you were still sleeping with Justin.”
Justin and Scotty share a slightly embarrassed look and Jordan starts to grin:
“Scotts? Anything I should know?”
“My precious husband is looking for a reason to divorce me. But Justin and I were strictly platonic.” Scotty’s smile is not far away.
“I can corroborate.” Justin laughs.
“Of course you would, you little rat.” Kevin teases, squeezing Justin’s shoulder.
“Hey! Have you tasted the food Scotty cooks. I want to marry him.” Justin immediately returns the joke.
“Scotty, you have to teach me how to cook.” Jordan decides, before coming back to the point of his being here. “Kevin suggested me for the job as the new janitor of this building.”
“What?” Scotty asks astounded.
“Yes. I had to talk with the owners who make up the committee for this building, but with Kevin’s recommendation I could hardly go wrong. I got the job and I can take the apartment of the previous janitor.”
“Scotty, I hope it’s alright with you, but I have suggested that we help Jordan with a little loan, so he can pay his rent to the other land-lady and get the hell out of that place and move here.”
“Fine with me.” Scotty replies, glad he can help Jordan.
“I can’t believe how lucky I am. Another house, another job, my debts paid off and it’s all thanks to the two of you.”
“It’s nothing. Scotty complained that we need another janitor here. The building has over a 150 apartments. Some big, some small. It is a huge complex. It will be a lot of hard work.”
“I don’t mind. I’m smarter than most people think. I can do a lot of things myself. I used to have summer-jobs everywhere. Picked up quite a lot little skills, but never found something I wanted to do for prolonged period of time. With this job however I can use everything I learned.”
“How is apartment 101? Mr James lived there until he retired and move in with his sister in Florida, three months ago.”
“It needs a bit of cleaning up, but ... I can move in this weekend, if I want! And I want!!!” Jordan laughs.
“Let’s clean it up then!” Scotty yells energetic. Kevin looks at Justin and Justin nods.
“I’ll help, if that is alright?” Justin asks.
“Of course it is.” Jordan smiles.
“Stop!! Dinner first! Join us, Jordan?” Scotty asks.
