About: Saul/Henry (somewhere after 3.14)
Disclaimer: Brothers & Sisters is not mine, I know. Stop rubbing it in.
Saul dreads this coming afternoon for one reason and one reason only. Golf. And he doesn’t like golf. No scratch that. He hates golf. And yet, here he stands outside the golf-club waiting for Henry. And Saul curses himself for having suggested this to Henry in the first place.
If only he hadn’t found that leaflet about this golf-club on Henry’s desk.... He could have lived with not knowing that Henry likes golf, although he’s glad that he finally found out something about Henry that makes him less perfect. Not that Henry IS a perfect person, he has his flaws, but there’s something about him that makes Saul feel that Henry is the perfect man for him.
They share a taste for music and theatre. They like the same authors. They are equally picky about good food. They can have heated discussions and comfortable silences. But now, ... Henry likes GOLF? Saul shakes his head in disbelief, but he can’t help but smile a tender smile. He loves Henry and if a boring afternoon of golf is what Henry likes, then Saul will try to like it too.
At that same moment he sees Henry’s motor-bike enter the parking-lot. Henry starts to smile when he sees Saul. After a quick glance to see if no one is looking at them, he quickly kisses Saul on the lips. Henry needs this kiss for what he’s about to do. His smile fades and he coughs to get Saul’s attention, as if he truly needs to do that, because Saul is still looking at him.
“Saul, I have something to tell you...” he starts and Saul’s smile disappears, Henry sounds serious.
“What is it?”
“Well, you said you hate secrets, so, with that in mind..... Do we really have to go play golf this afternoon?” Henry asks with a distraught look on his face. “I hate golf.”
“Really?!” Saul is astounded. “But then why....?”
“You suggested it and you looked so happy to suggest it.... I didn’t want to ruin your excitement.” Henry replies. Saul wants to tell him that he was only excited, because he thought he found something that Henry liked.
“There was a leaflet for this club....”
“A friend of mine gave it to me. She’s been begging me to come here for the last 5 years now.”
“So.... you don’t like golf?” Saul needs to hear this confirmed.
“Hate it... I’m sorry.” Henry’s replies in a small voice.
Much to Henry’s surprise Saul bursts into laughter.
“Then let’s get out of here.” Saul hiccups. “I hate golf too. I thought you liked it...” Now that Henry understands the mix-up his laughter joins Saul’s. Still grinning they walk back to Henry’s car, where Henry turns to Saul with a smile.
“I hate the fact that you don’t like golf.” Henry says. “I thought I finally found something about you I don’t like and now? .... Now you’re back to being perfect. If that makes any sense?” Saul starts to laugh uncontrollably, until he looks up at Henry again, wiping away the tears in his eyes.
“It makes perfect sense.” Saul replies, caressing Henry’s cheek.
