Brothers & Sisters is not mine, I know. Stop rubbing it in. Summary:
the ‘morning after’ Do you know how much I love you?
“Ha, breakfast.” Justin yells, cheerfully grabbing his pancakes. Scotty and Kevin watch in horror/fascination how he just chows down his food and sips his coffee..
“Did you sleep well?” Nora asks and Justin nods.
“Perfect.” Justin replies between two bites.
“So did Scotty and I.” Kevin informs them.
“I’ll bet.” Justin replies with a grin.
“Excuse me?” Scotty asks, a little worried.
“Pills? Tired? Duh.” Justin is friendly with Scotty, but there’s something……
“Yes, it was a long week and we went to bed early…” Kevin tells Nora. And Nora nods.
“Kevin, where did you put your other pills?” Scotty asks.
“Oh! I’m sorry, I left them upstairs, honey.” Kevin replies.
“I’ll get them.” And before anyone can say something, Scotty is on his way up the stairs.
It’s quiet in the kitchen for a few seconds, than Kevin hears approaching footsteps, some clanking noise, a soft ‘Got them’, a door shutting, and to his horror he sees the red light on the baby-monitor shining at him with bright colors. Nora and Justin sit there, looking at him, frozen. Kevin swallows his food carefully and with growing discomfort he then asks:
“Mom? When did you plug it back in…..?” his voice is low and ominous. Nora looks caught.
“Yesterday afternoon?... Oh, Kevin, I just wanted to be able to hear you if you needed me and….” She starts with a small voice, fearing a burst of anger from Kevin. Kevin however takes a deep breath…
“And was it turned on yesterday?” Kevin asks. Scotty comes in holding up his pills, but then he sees Kevin’s angry face.
“What’s going on?” He asks.
“Kevin just found out that mom plugged the baby-monitor back in yesterday afternoon.” Justin replies.
“What?!” Scotty becomes beet-red. He thinks of what they did last night and what he said. He had been so glad to have sex with Kevin and now… .Oh, God, Nora heard everything. Kevin sees Scotty’s mortified look and feels sorry for Scotty. Damn, Kevin is used to this family, interfering where they are not needed, but to Scotty it must be terrible.
He has to do something for poor Scotty now. Kevin slips off his stool and walks away. A few seconds later, they hear him come into the room upstairs and the next thing is an incredible loud static sound and Nora switches it off. Kevin hobbles back into the kitchen and puts the monitor on the table.
“Kevin…” Nora pleads, seeing that Kevin is very angry.
“No, Mom, I am already feeling better than a few days ago, thanks to my loving husband. I have my cell-phone, if I need you, I will call you…. THAT thing stays OFF from now on!”
“But…” Nora starts, but Kevin shakes his head.
“No ifs and buts about it, mom. I don’t want that thing in my room, especially not when I’m with Scotty. I want my privacy with him.” Kevin continues in a tired voice, before he turns to Scotty and asks:
“Can we go for a walk in the garden? I need some fresh air.” Scotty nods and follows him.
Once they are out of the kitchen Nora turns to Justin.
“Stop grinning, Justin. You should have said something.” Nora scolds her youngest son.
“Why, mom? Kevin and Scotty deserve privacy in their bedroom.” He laughs, he can imagine why Kevin and Scotty are feeling so embarrassed.
Nora gives him a defeated look.
“Justin, you know very well that, the moment we realized what those two were about to do, we switched off the baby-monitor.” Nora reprimands Justin. And Justin’s grin becomes even bigger.
“Yeah. But we don’t have to tell to them, now, do we?”
