Change of script. By Marea67 About: Matthew Rhys/Luke Macfarlane (so if that makes you uncomfortable, don't read it!!!) Rate:
I don’t know Mr Rhys or Mr Macfarlane. They belong to themselves. This is just a figment of my
over-active imagination, by no means meant to imply anything, or to offend them. I respect them as actors. If they would ever stumble on this story, I can only hope they will as much fun reading it, as I had writing it. Summary

here. It’s my first RPS and its freaks me out a bit, alright? :-D
There’s a little knock on his dressing-room-door and then Luke pokes his head in. Matthew grins upon seeing him.
“Summoned back as well, I assume?” he asks.
“Yes, what’s going on?”
“Then need to finish the episode this week.”
“So? We’re done. All is left is a scene between Rob and Calista, no? We don’t have to be here.”
“Change of script... we have to be in the last scene to be filmed.” Matthew replies handing over the revised script to Luke.
“Remember Calista complaining about not feeling too well? Woke up this morning with a sore throat. And by now, her voice is completely gone, she can only squeak if she tries really hard.. Which sounds very funny,... unless you’re an actor.” Luke nods. It’s his worst fear too. Vocal cords are so important...
“Robert and Kitty were supposed to discuss what happened over dinner and tease a bit and then have a lovely making out session. Kissing, bed, clothes on the floor, the whole thing. And now, we get to do that. We discuss what happened, tease a bit....”
“.. And end up playing cards as usual?” Luke asks and Matthew grins, knowing that it still ticks Luke off a bit that Kevin/Scotty never get to play out some hot sexy scene.
They sometimes watch Rob and Calista or Dave and Emily or even Balty and Sarah Jane and Matthew cannot help but be a bit bothered by the fact that he hardly ever gets to play love-scenes. Not that he is really that anxious to hop into bed with Luke, cute as he may be, but it just bothers him that Kevin gets treated differently. Has to be treated differently because Kevin is gay.
There’s a knock on the door and Ken comes in.
“I know it’s a bit messy and hurried up, but you have one hour...”
“Ahm, Ken? This script is only partially re-written, what do we do when we are done talking?” Matthew asks. “Do we get a kiss? Or just the usual hug?” It sounds like a joke, but Ken hears the underlying critique.
“You will play the whole scene as it is written for Rob and Calista, including the ending up on the couch smooching.”
“What?!” is Luke’s astounded question and Matthew looks up.
“I second that.” He says pointing at Luke.
“You are aware that this is where they end up half-naked? Which of us will do the Kitty-part?” Luke asks, still not believing what he just heard.
“You do. I’ve taken off my shirt plenty of times, your turn.” Matthew immediately replies, which earns him an quasi-angry look from Luke.
Ken grins deviously and replies:
“It’s the season’s finale. I plan to make it a good show. Just ruffle everyone’s feathers a bit. I mean, they will have a few months to cool off again after that... I’m sorry, Matthew, you will have to follow. Luke leads this time, taking Robert’s place.”
And as he leaves the room his last look is at Luke’s triumphant face and he hears Matthew mumble. “... Just cause he’s taller...” But Ken is not worried, Matthew will be right there when needed and probably enjoying the shooting.
“Alright, rehearse.” Luke says. Sitting beside each other they go over their text.
At first, there are mistakes and they laugh at each other’s mock-ups and correct where necessary the flow of the sentences, trying to get into the flow of the scene. The second run the words already make more sense and sounds more natural to them. They get distracted when Matthews phone rings and he gets up to take it.
Luke watches how for one moment Matthew looks puzzled and then replies in another language for about two, three sentences only to finish in English with quick, sharp “I’ll call you tonight.” Matthew doesn’t offer an explanation, Luke doesn’t ask. It’s really none of his business other than ....
“Matthew! Accent!” he corrects as he detects the inevitable Welsh accent peeping through..
“Soh-ree.” Matthew grins, a perfect copy of Luke’s Canadian accent, which earns him a soft tap on the head with the script by Luke, but Luke smiles, he doesn’t mind Matthew’s teasing any more then Matthew minds his.
“That was Ioan, he usually speaks English when he calls, to not distract me, but now he started immediately in Welsh... thinking I was home, where I should
have been by now. And it’s weird, because for a few seconds it sounds like someone speaks a foreign language and it took me a moment to get the translation right in my head.”
“Never have that problem.” Luke says, slightly distracted because he’s reading the script.
“No. Welsh always
sounds like a foreign language to me.” Luke replies dryly, then looking up at Matthew with a grin.
They both laugh and go on with their rehearsal, until they get into the characters, using intonations that are Kevin’s and Scotty’s, make the language theirs instead of their own. They start acting with each other, becoming Kevin and Scotty having a conversation that results in some innuendo. Luke delivers Scotty’s teasing lines with finesse and Matthew can’t help but enjoy the banter.
“.... and a kiss.” Luke finishes, flipping back through the pages to the start of the scene...
“What will they have us do? It says here that Kitty unbuttons Robert shirts and Robert pushes Kitty on the couch and covers her.”
“... ending the scene with the camera showing their clothes suggesting they are half-undressed...” Luke finishes before Matthew can. “One more time?”
Matthew nods. They get up, conversation flowing as Matthew fakes dropping Kevin’s keys and pouring some wine. They know the set, they know the routine. Luke pretends the taking over of his glass, the thank-you smile as he talks, putting ‘the glass’ down and sitting down on the couch. As “Kevin” gives his point of view, he at first sits on the arm of the couch.
But when the innuendo starts, Luke and Matthew move closer to each other, playful, teasing, flirting with each other as Kevin and Scotty would do. They both enjoy the lines, the text wickedly funny and easy to remember. It just feels so natural. In accordance with Scotty’s words, Luke pulls Kevin/Matthew into a closer embrace, letting his wrists rest on Matthew’s shoulders, playing with the hair in his neck.
Matthew inadvertently shivers under the touch. Luke notices, but does not let it distract him.
“Are sure about this, Kevin?” he asks and Matthew as Kevin just nods, putting his hand behind Luke’s head, pulling Luke closer for the kiss. Leaning more into the kiss with his body, Luke pushes Matthew down backwards, slowly covering Matthew’s body.
But the kiss doesn’t end when it should. Their lips stay locked. What started as just a professional kiss, evolves into more sliding of lips. Neither of them sure who is starting this, only aware that neither of them wants it to stop. Lost in the moment, their grips on each other tighten.
Luke carefully moves his body and Matthew immediately replies with a soft moan, pushing back. The kiss becoming increasingly more intimate as hands starts to slide and fingers start to explore, making both of them shiver with desire. Their breathing becomes irregular and they both know the kiss will have
to end, for lack of oxygen, so hesitantly their embrace loses its grip.
Luke lifts his head a bit. The kiss is still hanging between them. Easily reprised if necessary, but he hears Matthew swallow hard and say with a rough voice:
“I think we have rehearsed this scene to the max.”
“Yes.” Luke can only agree, not willing to let go, but knowing he’ll have to. He sits up and Matthew gets off the couch. “Are you alright?”
“Of course. It was just rehearsal.” Matthew replies casually, but his hands tremble a bit as he picks up the papers that fell on the floor. Luke nods. It has
to be just that.
“Right.... then I’ll go to my dressing room and ... get dressed..”
“Yeah. Good idea. We will need to go the set .... anytime now.”
There is an awkward silence between them. And Luke breaks it as he forces himself to ask, with a smile.
“See you in a bit?” Matthew nods. Luke turns around and for moment Matthew considers calling him back to discuss what happened, but then it passes and the door closes behind Luke.
The End.... I think.
