Summary: takes place three months after the end of 2.11
Scotty is glad to see Kevin pick him up. The Ranchero is away for repairs (again!!) and although he promised he would come to the restaurant to take Scotty back home, Scotty worried he had forgotten. But no, he waits patiently, leaning against his car. Scotty wraps his arms around Kevin and kisses him. Just a quick kiss, but when he backs away from Kevin, he sees Kevin pull something from behind him.
It is a single, large, red rose, that he offers Scotty with an almost shy look on his face.
“A rose? For me?” Scotty feels a bit surprised. Kevin is usually not into giving gifts.
“Yes. I hope it is not offensive to give one?”
“Offensive? Why would it be offensive?”
“It’s sometimes hard for me to guess, if I’m allowed to give you something, without your going all mad at me because you can’t return with a present of your own.” Kevin says quietly and Scotty is not sure if he should feel guilty or insulted for Kevin's belief that he doesn’t appreciate a gift. “Anyway, it’s been three months since we are officially back together and I felt … just a small gift… might not upset you.”
“Three months?” Scotty tries to figure out how Kevin came to three months, for it’s been much longer since Kevin broke up with Jason and asked Scotty back.
“Yes, I feel we only got together for real after that dinner with Jason. It seems that the day after that, after I had found you in the Ranchero, that is when we really had enough faith in each other to go through with this relationship.” Kevin explains awkwardly.
Scotty can see Kevin’s logic. Yes, it is true, that during those months prior to the dinner, he felt like he was living on borrowed time. That at any moment Kevin would change his mind and he’d back to being alone, on the streets, in his Ranchero. So, yes, they were together, but not really a couple in the sense that they trusted each other completely.
Scotty suddenly realizes that Kevin is still standing there with the rose in his hands, looking awfully nervous and shy and he melts as he fully understands what Kevin is trying to do and say.
“Kevin.” He sighs tenderly and he takes over the rose, the faint sweet scent reaching his nose and making him feel very special.
There, in the small, dark alley Scotty kisses Kevin with tenderness and love, wrapping his arms around Kevin’s waist and pulling him closer, while at the same time pushing him closer to his car, trapping him between Scotty’s body and the vehicle... Until he breaks the kiss and he whispers:
“I love you too.” And Kevin’s smile turns from shy to very happy and then he takes Scotty into his arms to claim another kiss.
