About: Chad, but Kevin, Scotty and Jason will pop up as well.
Rate: Mmmnot sure yet.
Disclaimer: The usual blah-blah....
Summary: Something happens to Chad and it ‘ain’t purdy’…. Idea given to me by Darkestboy in 2012, though it didn't quite end up as I had expected. :) References made to Alex Grodin, who's the main character in Happy now? and Last Christmas, though you don't really need to have read them to follow this one.
Warning: Deals with non-consensual sex and touches upon the subject of incest, without going too much into detail, but if these are triggers for you, don't read it.
TWO MONTHS LATER
“They grow so fast…” Jason swoons as he looks down on Lily-Rose’s sleeping face.
“Tell us about it..” Scotty caresses the little girl’s cheek with the back of his finger. “She’s so cute… She’s going to break so many hearts when she grows older.”
“I can’t get enough of her. I could just sit here and watch her for hours…”
“The joys of fatherhood.” Scotty grins. “How’s Chad taking it? Still interested?”
“He loves her more than I do, if that is at all possible. I’m not making this a competition, but Chad would rather prefer to have her around him 24/7. Nothing he won’t do for her, bathing, changing diapers, clean up vomit, hold her when she cries. He does it all.”
“Well, that’s a good sign, isn’t it?”
“Yes. I did think that I’d would be the one looking after her, that after a few weeks the novelty would wear off and Chad would get tired of it. Not that I thought he’d be a bad father, just that he’d leave raising her to me.”
“Are you disappointed? Or are you happy with that?” Scotty asks. Jason doesn’t answer immediately, but then says:
“A bit of both, I think. I hate handing her over to Chad, because I want to hold her all day. She’s so perfect… But at the same time I’m glad to see Chad so involved.”
Scotty recognizes this from the time that he desired to hold Daniel himself and, simultaneously, see him with Kevin.
“Are Chad and Kevin still going through that document? Dinner is almost ready.”
“Knowing Chad he’s most likely showing all 4 million 3 hundred and eighty-eight pics that he made of our daughter…” Jason points out.
“He’d better not. He’ll run the risk that Kevin will pull out his pictures of Olivia and Daniel.” Scotty laughs. “Olivia! Get Kevin and uncle Chad! Tell them dinner is ready… Daniel wash your hands!” Jason watches how Daniel climbs up a small stool to wash his hands.
“He’s getting big too.” Jason sighs.
“I know. Seems like only yesterday, he couldn’t even reach the tab… And now?.. Look at him, washing his hands on his own. Suddenly, I was no longer allowed to help him. He wanted to do it alo-o-o-o-one…”
That is still far in the future for us..”
“Don’t say that too loud. It all goes faster than you think. ” Scotty points out, just as the door opens and Olivia enters, followed by Chad and Kevin.
“I heard dinner is ready?” Kevin asks.
“Two minutes.” Scotty promises. Chad takes over Lily-Rose from Jason, so he can sit down. Chad carefully puts the little girl in the maxi-cosi so she can sleep on. Kevin puts Daniel in his chair.
“How domesticated have we become…” Kevin laughs.
“Yeah, finally got tamed and by a woman no less.” Chad caresses his daughter’s face. There’s a little smacking sound, but she sleeps on.
“First time for everything.” Jason grins. Scotty puts the plates on the table and the conversation changes away from children.
Shirley’s entire world has turned to grey. The baby is gone. She’s no longer pregnant. She still can’t handle the thought all that well. She misses Lillian. They told her that she died months ago, but Shirley knows it isn’t true. She had Lillian with her all the time.
She had nearly believed the doctors. Nearly. But then one of the other inmates had shoved a gossip-magazine under her nose.
“Ain’t that your little boyfriend?” The woman had asked and Shirley had seen the pictures.
Lily-Rose? No, no, her name should be Lillian! Lillian! But at least now she knows where her baby is. She tears off the picture of the baby and doesn’t read the rest of the article. All she sees is the child in Chad’s arms. Her child! Their child. He has her. And the doctors may try to make her believe that her baby died, but she knows better than that.
“I don’t think I’ve been happier in my life.” Chad sighs and he wraps his arms around Jason. “I mean. There’s you. And our beautiful Lily-Rose. We have amazing friends and we’ve become a family of our own… I seriously don’t believe that I’ve ever been happier.” Jason smiles at Chad’s words and kisses him.
“We did the right thing. For us. For her… I can’t believe our luck either.”
“Sometimes, I’m afraid that we will lose this wonderful feeling again. That someone is going to take her away from us.”
“No chance. The contract doesn’t have a single loophole. Kevin made sure of that…”Jason’s joke hits the right spot and Chad laughs.
“That’s comforting to know.”
“I think we’re the luckiest couple in the world.” Jason sighs.
“I agree with you, Mr McCallister. “ Chad answers and he kisses Jason passionately.
“I think we’re the luckiest couple in the world.” Kevin sighs.
“I agree with you, Mr Walker.” Scotty smiles as he looks down on Olivia, asleep, with her little brother in her arms.
Daniel had fallen asleep while she was reading to him and then she had wanted to stay with him a bit longer and finish the book, but she had fallen asleep herself.
“Should we wake them?” Scotty asks.
“Nah, let them sleep.” Kevin grins. He reaches out to Scotty and pulls him closer. “With them asleep, perhaps we can retreat to the bedroom as well? Perhaps not immediately to sleep, maybe just to …”
He doesn’t get the chance to finish his suggestion, because Scotty silences him with a kiss and pushes him towards the bedroom.
In her cell, Shirley has made a doll out of some pieces of clothes. And she takes the doll in her arms and holds it as if it’s a baby. She puts the picture of Lily-Rose on the place where a baby’s head would be and she slowly begins to rock the ‘child’ in her arms, as smiles down on the picture of Lily-Rose. And she quietly sings:
“Hush, little baby, don't say a word, mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
If that mockingbird don't sing, Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring
If that diamond ring won't do, Mama’s gonna go look for you..
And then everything will be fine, because, baby, you’re mine….”
