Disclaimer: If they were mine…… sighhhhhh.
Summary: … because I heard that song tonight and now I can’t get it out of my mind and naturally Kevin/Scotty are going to have to suffer the consequences…. I'm soooooo mean!!! (wicked laughter!)
And if for some reason you never heard the song, here is a link: Rupert Holmes - Escape Be warned though, once stuck in your head, you can only have it removed by surgery ...! And I ain't paying!
"I was tired of my lady, We'd been together too long,
Like a worn-out recording of a favorite song,
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed
And in the personal columns, There was this letter I read..."
“I think it’s kinda mean.” Scotty says.
“What?” Kevin looks up from his book…
“That song. Rushing for the personal ads to find someone else.” I
t takes Kevin two seconds to realize what Scotty is talking about, but then he remembers the lyrics too.
"If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga. If you have half a brain.
If you'd like making love at midnight, in the dunes on the Cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for. Write to me and escape."
“I agree. Besides, life isn’t about just Pina Coladas or making love at midnight, or no matter where else you want to make it. It’s about so much more.” Kevin nods. Scotty quietly agrees with him. Their own lives were certainly about a lot more than just drinking and having sex. They were way past that stage. They were parents now…
I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean,
But me and my old lady have fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper. Took out a personal ad
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half bad...”
Routine. Scotty shivers at the word. Isn’t that in most cases the problem in a marriage? Routine, the same old drill, day in day out. Kids to school. Go to work. Do your job. Come home. Deal with kids. Go to bed. Sleep..... Somewhere the romance and the fun seems to get lost if you don’t work at it.
"Yes I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food. I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon and cut through all this red-tape
At a bar called O'Malley's, where we'll plan our escape."
“Trap is set.” Kevin grins.
“He’s going.” Scotty nods.
“Will he find the lady of his dreams?” Kevin says in an ‘announcer’s voice’.
“Stay tuned!” Scotty jokes.
“So I waited with high hopes and she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant. I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady and she said, "Oh it's you."
Then we laughed for a moment and I said, "I never knew...."
"I always thought, that it was strange to be someone for so long and maybe not know her so well. We haven’t been together that long, but I don’t think that we have that many secrets from each other, do we? Is there really something about me you don’t know? Or that I don’t know about you?” Kevin asks.
“That you like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain,
and the feel of the ocean and the taste of champagne.
If you'd like making love at midnight in the dunes of the Cape
You're the lady I've looked for, Come with me and escape…”
“Well, I think that you never get to know your partner as well as you think.” Scotty points out as the song fades away. “Are you really telling me that I’m that predictable, that you’re never surprised by anything I do?” Scotty suddenly wonders if perhaps their own marriage isn’t too much stuck in a rut.
“I’m always surprised that you’re still with me…”
“Yes, me too.” Scotty answers dryly, but with a sweet smile on his face. Kevin gives him a dirty look, but only manages to make Scotty’s grin even bigger. Kevin reaches out for Scotty and, taking Kevin’s hand, Scotty sits down on the couch.
“I have no secrets from you.” Kevin says. “You know that I like Pina Coladas…”
"Shouldn't mix those with Champagne though... And I don’t mind rain, as long as there isn’t too much of it.”
“I hate yoga.” But Kevin doesn't tell Scotty anything new there. "And I hate healthfood...."
“I know. But you're getting it anyway.” Scotty replies without mercy.
"I know that too." Kevin sighs, but then he sees he confesses. "But, I kinda like it when you take charge. Sometimes... It's so hot!"
"Tsssss." Scotty makes a sizzling sound. “How about making love at midnight?”
“I like making love with you at any time of the day.”
“Ooooh, good answer.” Scotty coos and he kisses Kevin’s nose. “So, am I the one you looked for then?”
“You absolutely are.” Kevin replies and takes Scotty in his arms to prove it with a kiss.
