At first he wasn’t worried, when Kevin didn’t call. After all he told him not to call him again. It was Kevin’s own fault that Chad no longer wanted him. Kevin cheated on him, with that other guy, Scott, so Chad broke up with him. He assumed that Kevin wanted to make him jealous, but it failed. He expected a phone-call from a broken-hearted Kevin a few days later. Happened to him all the time. But the phone remained eerily quiet. Kevin didn’t call.
Then Chad grew uncomfortable. He wasn’t used to this. He was the one they always came back to. He was the one picking his boyfriends at random. But he found he could not get Kevin out of his mind. He missed Kevin like crazy. Michelle was suddenly not enough anymore, he wanted more and he wanted Kevin back in his life. He broke up with Michelle, finally understanding he couldn’t go on with her either.
He texted Kevin to call him, but Kevin didn’t respond. Eventually he called Kevin and FINALLY Kevin agreed to meet with him. He was cold and distant at first and Chad really had to do his utmost to get Kevin to take a date with him. The date didn’t go as smoothly as he hoped. Kevin was very much on his guard, but thawed out eventually after a few glasses of wine.
They had their first kiss in the car. Convincing Kevin to come with him to his house wasn’t hard after that. For the first time they made love in Chad’s bed and though the sex was good, something has changed. Kevin is no longer seducing him, but expecting him to seduce Kevin and strangely enough Chad felt the challenge and liked it.
And though Kevin left him again, very early in the morning, he was very confident that he had recaptured Kevin’s heart. But 5 unanswered phone-calls later he stood in front of Kevin’s apartment, feeling the same desperation as a few days ago. He could not understand what he did wrong, until it became apparent that Kevin spoke with Michelle. He again needed to persuade Kevin to let him in. He should be annoyed, but he could not be because he liked it too much.
For the first time in a long time he was the one chasing someone else. He sat opposite Kevin and learned his lines, watched Kevin preparing his case and realized this time it wasn’t about having sex, about the act itself, quickly and routinely done. But it was about being with each another person and value time spent with each other. Kevin looked up at him and caught his stare. Kevin gave him a little hesitant smile and Chad felt the fluttering feeling in his stomach. And wondered if perhaps, for the first time, he might actually be in love.
