".... In FX Pilot ‘The Americans’

I’ve learned that Brothers & Sisters alum Matthew Rhys has landed the male lead opposite Keri Russell in FX‘s period drama pilot The Americans. Created/executive by Joe Weisberg, executive produced by Graham Yost and directed by Gavin O’Connor, the project centers on two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, DC in the early 1980s. The arranged marriage of Phillip Jennings (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell) grows more passionate and genuine by the day but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. The Americans is produced by Fox TV Studios and FX Prods. DreamWorks TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are also executive producing. Reps for FX could not be reached for comment Friday night. Brit Rhys is with WME, Management 360 and UK’s United Agents."

This sounds really interesting. I'll be watching it, definitely.

Yes, me too. I'll HAVE to if it has MR in it. :)

At the same time, I think it's too bad. I had hoped that he would show a bit more of himself with guest-appearances (Dr Who perhaps?), play different charactrers. Though I'm glad that he might be in another series, I also liked that he had his freedom to do different things.

Yeah, still hoping for Matthew as the next Master on Doctor Who myself. Compared to B&S though, The American will have less episodes, so not as much filming and more chances for Matthew to do other things in his spare time. That's kind of the joys of a cable show.

Is that so, that a cable show has less episodes? I didn't know that. Don't know if I'm sad or happy with that bit of news.

I don't know but with FX, most of their shows have something between 12 to 16 episodes. I think it's good for pacing with the storylines and I don't doubt Matthew will have plenty of moments to shine.

Yes, cable shows never have more than 16 episodes and an average of 10-14 and usually they film all the episodes before airing. But the episodes are so much better than in network shows, so at the end I am sure we will have a lot of amazing moments and we will not need to skip any part so it will be the same.

It's been less than a year and Matthew has done/been involved in not ONE but FOUR genuinely interesting projects worth watching/attending and not just because he's in them. Proves as well as being a great actor, the guy's got impeccable instincts as well for picking projects.
