Remember how Chad proposed to Jason at the end of "Underneath the mistletoe"? Well, Chad and Jason have set the date for their wedding, but will things go as smoothly as Chad/Jason had hoped?
“What do you guys think? This one? Or this one?” Kevin holds up two ties. Both would go well with his suit.
“The burgundy one.” Scotty says.
“The blue one.” Olivia replies simultaneously.
“You guys are a great
help.” Kevin sighs sarcastically. “Daniel, my man, I think you may be too young to face the toughest decisions in life, but …. what do you think? The blue one…” He dangles it in front of Daniel. “Or the burgundy one.” Kevin now shows Daniel the other one. “Which one should daddy wear?”
Daniel’s big eyes stare up at him, a serious look on his face, but then he makes a little noise that sounds suspiciously like ‘daiii’ and he grabs the blue one. Olivia laughs, holds up Daniel’s hand and gently taps the palm of her hand against his.
“High five, baby-brother.” She grins.
“Sorry, sweetie, you’ve been out-voted.” Kevin apologizes to Scotty.
“Ganging up on me already…. Puberty is going to be hell.” Scotty predicts with a smile. He picks Daniel out of the children’s chair and warns threateningly: “And you little traitor, just for that, it’s off to your bath for you, young man. Don’t want to be all dirty when Paige comes to baby-sit.”
Daniel makes a face, but when Scotty rubs his belly, he starts to laugh. He holds on to Scotty and doesn’t let go. Kevin watches them walk away and turns to Olivia.
“Are you ready? I’ll drop you off at Leslie’s for some extra tutoring and then…. I have someone I need to speak to … urgently.” Kevin says with pure determination on his face.
Now Jason remembers why he had to think twice before asking Kitty if he could stay with her. He has no idea what she had done with the eggs, or what she had added to them, but they taste awful. Yet, he smiles, when he looks at her expecting face.
“It’s not bad… It’s… different
…” He says diplomatically.
“You hate it.” Kitty translates immediately. “‘Different’. That is the word Robert would use also. You can be honest, you know.”
“I am. And don’t compare me to Robert all the time, I’m not my brother….”
“I know. I’m sorry.” Kitty mumbles.
“And it is true. I wouldn’t say that I hate
it. It’s not like you burned it or it’s still dripping because it’s not properly prepared… There’s just something about the taste that … takes some getting used to, I suppose.” And Jason gives her his most charming smile, glad he came up with such a good excuse.
“I’ve been taking cooking lessons and I’m really trying out all sorts of spices and herbs…” Kitty explains excitedly and Jason nods, when he gently emphasizes:
“Take my advice. Sometimes all a good meal needs is just some plain salt and pepper.” Kitty makes a face and he knows that she’s doubting him again.
He sighs, not sure if he can handle this very often. He appreciates that Kitty wants to help him, but this is will get very tiresome after a few days. He takes another bite, when the doorbell rings and Kitty is distracted long enough for Jason to chuck away the eggs- with-what-was-it-again-oh-who-cares-anyw
ay at the bottom of the trashcan and cover up the fact.
“You have a visitor.” Kitty announces. “And I have to get a shower. I’ll leave you two alone.” She disappears and Jason gives a sigh of relief.
“It’s you. I thought it would be Chad or Kevin.” Jason sighs.
“I don’t know why you think you’d be better off with me.” Scotty answers dryly.
Chad places his orange-juice before him and wipes the sweat of his fore-head. He swam his usual number of laps this morning. He did his training on the tread-mill. And his push-ups.. He’s sweaty, but he feels revitalized and he’s satisfied with the body that he sees in the mirror.
Unfortunately the sad face doesn’t give him quite the complete energy-boost he was going for. He knows he has to eat now, but he’s not hungry. Maybe he should just get his coffee today. He can afford to skip breakfast, he realizes, when he sees that his mirror shows him some cute little love-handles.
Normally he wouldn’t mind. After all, he’s not twenty anymore and he’s not that vain anymore either, but he has to shoot a new commercial and he needs to take his shirt off for that one. His sandwich seems to whisper his name, but at the same time Chad wants the ignore the siren call of the cheese, that is just waiting for him….
Ah! Saved by the bell! Chad quickly checks who’s at the gate and he smiles when he sees that it’s Kevin. Just the distraction he needs! It isn’t until he opens his front-door that he realizes the probable reason for Kevin’s visit. Jason. The happy smile on Chad’s face disappears, because he doesn’t want to talk about Jason.
“Hey! I was just about to search for an excuse to not have breakfast. I have to lose some weight.” Chad puts on his best smile as he greets Kevin. Kevin looks at him, up and down, wondering where the extra pounds are supposed to come from, but doesn't say it.
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, don’t skip it….” Kevin advices, not very helpful. “Shall we go in?”
