MONDAY AFTERNOON 14.30h – ROBERT AND KITTY’S HOUSE:
“You are kidding, right?” Jason asks, but Robert shakes his head.
“No, I am serious in my idea.”
“You want me …to go.. with you and your brothers-in-law… on a boat-trip?”
“This coming weekend?”
“Have you lost your mind?”
“Nnnno, not that I am aware of.” Robert answers hesitantly. “Why?”
“Me. Kevin. One boat? Scotty is going to call out the national guard.”
“He won’t, because he’ll be coming too…. That’s to say… Kevin would ask him if he wanted to come along.”
“Alright, so you want me AND Kevin AND Scotty on ONE yacht? There ain’t a yacht big enough to handle that.”
“Come on. I have to invite Scotty. It’s the only way that Kevin will come along. Kevin thinks he can convince Scotty to come. Please tell me that you will not be the one making troubles?”
Jason takes a long look at Robert. One weekend. They leave early Saturday morning and will be back late Sunday afternoon. And why not? Kevin and he split up nearly a year ago, his last meeting with Kevin and Scotty was 6 months ago. Kevin and Scotty are married now, there is no reason for Scotty to be insecure, maybe they could normalize their relationships. He sighs.
“Alright. I’ll be there. Six o’clock right?”
“Right.” Replies Robert with a huge smile.
TUESDAY NIGHT 20.10h – KEVIN AND SCOTTY’S HOUSE
“Robert is kidding, right?” Scotty asks, but Kevin shakes his head. “What on Earth am I supposed to do on a boat with Robert, Jason and you?....”
“Justin and Tommy will be there too.” Kevin interjects.
“Whatever, Kevin… The thought of spending a weekend with Jason, on one boat, is not one I care to think about for too long.”
“Come on, Scotty, don’t be the odd one out. Robert is allowed to use a yacht from one of his friends. He thought it would be nice if perhaps we would all go. You know, just the guys.”
“I’m not sure…”
“Please, Scotty, I’d love to spend some time with Tommy and Justin, fishing, swimming. And I can imagine Robert wanting to be with Jason, they hardly see each other as it is.”
“Sound like you don’t need me.”
“I always need you….”
“…, but you must be there with me or you will spend all weekend worrying about what I am doing and who I am doing it with. Don’t fool yourself, Scotty, you know I’m right.”
Scotty sighs. He knows they will argue this to death and Kevin is determined to take him along. And, yes, if he is honest, the idea of Kevin and Jason alone on that ship, doesn’t please him at all, and, yes, he knows that he will want to be there. But Scotty also knows that if he will not go, then neither will Kevin. Scotty knows that Kevin loves to go fishing and swimming with his brothers. Why should Kevin have to miss out on something he really enjoys, because of him?
“Alright. Let’s do it.” Scotty replies.
SATURDAY MORNING 06.00h - TOMMY’S CAR
“Remind me again why we are going?” asks Justin, still a bit groggy from the lack of sleep. Robert and Jason, would stay at the house of Robert’s friend, but Kevin, Scotty, Tommy and he had not been invited there. They had decided to take two small hotel-rooms for one night. Kevin and Scotty came very late, because Scotty had to work and after a quick drink they had said their goodbyes to get some sleep and be ready for this morning.
“Because Robert needed a pair of extra hands to make sure Scotty and Jason don’t kill each other over Kevin?” replied Tommy.
“Rrrright. So why are Kevin and Scotty going then?”
“Because Robert needed a pair of extra hands to keep us apart?”
“…’kay, And Robert and Jason are going because….?”
“The boat is owned by a friend of Robert’s and Robert asked Jason, because Jason is his brother? Besides, it was Robert's idea.”
“I knew there had to be some good reasons why we are doing this.” Justin mumbles.
“Come on, bro. It’s just a bit of a male bonding thing, I guess.” Tommy shrugs. Justin grins.
“I’m pretty sure that Kevin will be very angry, if Scotty and Jason would bond too well….”
Tommy and Justin both laugh out loud.
"Not a chance. They hate each other." jokes Tommy.
“There are Robert and Jason…” Justin points at a car, waiting at the parking-lot. As Tommy parks his car, he sees from the corner of his eye how Kevin’s car enters the small parking lot as well. They are complete.
