***** HALFWAY MAY 2008
“Justin, what have you done?” Kevin asks and Justin looks terribly guilty.
“I… I didn’t want to hurt him..”
“If he found out that he’s in love with you, I hope you at least let him down gently.”
“He.. didn’t find out anything. I…” Justin takes a deep breath, seeking strength.
And Kevin starts to realize that Jordan falling in love with Justin doesn’t fit the profile of feeling ‘taken for granted’, that would require it to be Justin doing the taking … it would have to be the other way around…. But… Kevin’s eyes become big with understanding and Justin knows that Kevin just connected the dots.
“It is me who has feelings, I shouldn’t have, for Jordan.” Justin admits.
“Holy….” But Kevin cannot think of anything further that could express his astonishment.
“Yeah, I know. That is what I thought too.”
“Wh…. What happened?” Kevin stammers.
Justin sinks down on the couch, with Kevin right beside him and he start to tell about the way he kissed Jordan the first time, the night their father died. About the tension that came with it, the explaining, the time they kissed again and there, Justin is so vague that Kevin gets that something happened he doesn’t wish to discuss.
And about how he behaved afterwards, sneaking away and trying to avoid Jordan. And their fight. He doesn’t spare himself. With the exception of what happened between them in Jordan’s bed, he tells Kevin everything and Kevin can only let himself fall backward in the cushion and be shocked.
“I don’t get it. So, are you bi-sexual or something?”
“I don’t know. All I know is, it drives me crazy. I’ve never felt for another man what I feel for Jordan and it scares me to death. I am not supposed to feel like this, but I do and I can’t switch it off.”
“… and that is the whole story.” Jordan concludes, slowly getting less upset. Scotty scratches his head.
“Wow! That is something else.” He then says.
“I know. I don’t know what to do.” Jordan admits.
“I can see the difficulties.” Scotty nods. Kevin, Justin, the Walkers in general, they have infiltrated the lives of Jordan and him and if you hurt one, you hurt them all. Scotty can understand why Justin is having problems accepting his feelings for Jordan, but on the other hand, that doesn’t mean Jordan should have to suffer for it.
“I think Kevin will be very surprised when he hears about all this.” Scotty sighs, scaring Jordan.
“No! You can’t tell Kevin! Please. Don’t tell him. If he finds out… He won’t believe me. And confront Justin and Justin will be mortified.
I don’t think he’s ready to tell anybody anything. He’s so confused. Please, Scotty, for the sake of my friendship with Justin, or what’s left of it, don’t tell Kevin…” Scotty realizes that this request puts the conflict on him. He knows the truth, but should he tell his husband or stay quiet about it.
He doesn’t want to lie to Kevin, but maybe the truth is none of Kevin’s business. It is basically between Jordan and Justin.
“I’m not going to lie to him…” Scotty warns. “But I also feel that you should have a chance to solve this with Justin.”
“You can’t tell Scotty about this. He’ll kill me… This could lead to arguments between the two of you and I don’t want that.” Justin begs. Kevin shakes his head.
“I’m not going to lie to him.”
“Not ‘lie’, just ‘don’t tell’. What he doesn’t know won’t make him mad.”
Kevin is about to reply to that when the doorbell rings. Justin slips off the couch and goes to the door to see who is outside.
“Oh, my god, it’s Chad.” Justin says shocked.
“Why am I not surprised.” Kevin reacts dryly.
Justin quickly opens the door and Chad enters.
“Hi, Justin, I need to talk to Jordan.” He says. Justin is about to tell Chad, that Jordan has locked himself up in his room, when the door to Jordan’s room opens and Scotty and Jordan exit, Jordan looking a lot happier than earlier that evening.
“Chad!” Scotty is surprised to see him, but Chad only has eyes for Jordan.
“Can I talk to you for a second? Alone?” Chad asks. Jordan smiles hesitantly.
“Step into in my office.” He then says with a shrug and Chad follows him into his room.
“Sorry. Not much space for private conversations here.” Jordan apologizes. "I’m so terribly, terribly sorry about the way I behaved tonight. I completely misunderstood your intentions. I acted like a total idiot…”
“No, it’s alright. I was afraid that I’d given off the wrong signal or something. I know some think that I should forget about Jason and simply find someone else, but … I don’t want someone else.”
“Me neither. I mean… I still have feelings for that straight guy.” Jordan says.
“Well, I’m sure that a few nights out with Justin and you other two friends will make you feel a lot better.” Chad says friendly.
“I don’t think that going out with Justin will solve my problem.” Jordan sighs and slowly Chad starts to see why.
“Justin?” He asks Jordan and Jordan nods.
“Ouch. That must be so tough for you.”
“It is.” Jordan sighs again. “If only he would take a little distance from me. I’m sure if he thought I wasn’t available anymore, he'd go back to chasing girls and forget what he feels for me.”
“I doubt it.” Chad’s voice is hesitant. “Justin can be very tenacious.”
“Yes, but he’d back off if he thought I was with someone else….” Jordan thinks out loud and he turns to Chad: “You’ve given me an idea! I ‘m going to get myself a boy-friend!”
“I’m sure that Quinn has a friend who wouldn’t mind posing as my boy-friend. I mean, Justin has to see him only once. If he believes I have a boyfriend, he’ll move on.”
“It could work.” Chad admits and then he looks up at Jordan. “Why not let it be me?”
“Why not? That will give you time to get over Justin and me to get over Jason. And we can have some fun in the meantime…. Strictly platonic.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yes. Give me one good reason that could stop us.” Chad dares and honestly, Jordan cannot think of one. If Chad wants to do this… He could have had a worse boy-friend.
“Alright!” Jordan approves and Chad jumps up.
“Come on then, let’s tell the others the good news.”
And that is how Justin has to watch Jordan and Chad leave the room, laughing and smiling at each other. At the door Chad takes Jordan’s hands and kisses them.
“I have to go.” Chad says. “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“I can’t wait.” Jordan replies breathlessly.
Chad takes Jordan in his arms and kisses him. Scotty stares at them, stunned by the show the two of them are giving away. Kevin frowns, not understanding what game is being played and Justin feels as if someone just ripped his heart out.
“I… I think I’ll give them some privacy….” He stammers and he flees to his room.
His feelings are even more confused than before. It was okay to not get involved with Jordan, but he’s very angry and jealous, more jealous than he's ever been before. And he knows he’s ridiculous. He made it clear to Jordan that Jordan was meaningless to him, why should Jordan wait for him to make up his mind?
The elevator takes Kevin and Scotty back to their own floor. Both feel strange after everything that happened tonight.
“Do you think they were for real?” Kevin asks suddenly.
“Think so. Sounded like it.” Scotty replies, but his voice betray his confusion.
Kevin closes the door of the loft behind them and they both sit down on the couch. Kevin takes his phone. For a few seconds his thumb wait and then they start typing the message. Scotty grins and forwards messages to his own friends and the news that Chad and Jordan are dating start to spread around.
It travels to Tommy and Sarah, who spread the news to some others, Nora is very happy Jordan found someone as sweet at Chad. The news puts a grin on the faces of Quinn and Mario. Eventually Kitty gets it too. And she forwards it to Robert, without thinking further. Robert reads it and after thinking it over twice, sends the message ... to Jason.
