“What do you think? This one? Or this one?” Kitty asks Nora, holding up two outfits.
“They both look very ‘conservative’.” Nora replies.
“I have an interview with the “über”-conservative Robert McCallister. So, I want to leave a good impression. The audience should have to know immediately where I stand.”

“Ah, Senator Homophobe... Bring up the topic of same-sex marriage! Rattle his cage!” Nora demands. “I know that you’re against it…”
“Then you’re wrong, mom. I’m pro-gay-marriage. Just not as vocal as you are… And don’t worry. If the topic comes up I’ll defend Kevin’s right to get married. Fanatically.” Kitty promises.

Kitty feels annoyed. She had really looked forward to this interview. She’s was prepared to engage in any conversation with the senator, about any topic, but so far, it seems Robert McCallister is only interested in replying to Warren’s questions. Any topic she brings up gets deflected and McCallister practically ignores her!

And it bugs her even more, because this is her first time on tv and she knows that Nora is watching at home with Tommy and Julia and that Sarah and Joe are on their own couch and that Justin and Jordan are with Kevin and Scotty to watch her… Getting humiliated!
“Commercial break!”

While they quickly have their make-up checked, Warren bends over to her.
“What is wrong with that guy? He acts as if you don’t exist! Doesn’t he know you’re on his side?”
“I don’t get it either.” Kitty replies, but she’s determined to put an end to her ‘non-existence’ in this interview. She just will not allow anyone to ignore her!

“Aaaaand we’re back with Red, White and Blue.” Warren announces. “Live from Hollywood. Our guest tonight is Senator Robert McCallister and of course, we will want to know his position on a hot item these last few weeks… same-sex marriage. Should a gay or lesbian couple be able to get married? Or is marriage only meant to be between one man and one woman?”

“I think that, like most Republicans, I’m against same-sex marriage….” Robert starts.
“I disagree.” Kitty suddenly interrupts him, loud and clear. “I am a Republican, but I have a gay brother and I cannot wait for him to be able to marry his partner.” Kitty declares defiantly.

“Go tell him, sis!” Justin yells at the tv.

“Then I feel sorry for you, Miss Walker.” Robert replies stiffly.
“Why? Because I support same-sex marriage? It doesn’t make me less of a Republican. I just like to keep an open mind to the very slow change of opinion, that is taking place in America.”
“It would, of course, be sad to see the sanctity of marriage undermined…” Robert starts.

“Oh, shut up!” Kevin throws popcorn at his tv-screen.
“Do we HAVE to watch him? He is so irritating.” Jordan whines.
“We need to spiritually support Kitty.” Kevin replies.
“Great!” Scotty sulks.

“You mean that same sanctity that you yourself are so proud to uphold…. Oh, wait, right….” Kitty snaps her fingers. “You’re divorced, because your wife out that you cheated on her with one of your receptionists.”
“I can understand…” Robert tries to remain calm. “..that gay marriage is a subject close to your heart, Miss Walker,…”

“Not just hers, Robert.” Jason sighs, preparing his sermon for Sunday.

“It is. I believe, that if two persons are in love and want to commit to each other, in order to share their lives together, they should be able to get married, with no difference being made whether they are straight, gay or lesbian.”

“Girl, who are you and what have you done with my daughter?” Nora wonders, amazed that Kitty keeps her promise.

“That is just wrong.” Robert replies. Warren sits back a bit, amused by how furious Kitty is.
“What is wrong? Same-sex marriage? Or being gay in general?” She asks.

“Uh, why is Kitty suddenly so aggressive about this topic? Have you read that hell froze over?” Sarah asks Joe. Joe shakes his head.
“PMS?” He offers as an explanation.

“As I said…” Robert turns to Warren.

“Oooh, smart move, Senator.” Tommy says, knowing from experience that being turned away from in the middle of a debate doesn’t sit well with Kitty.

“Senator McCallister.” Kitty’s voice is cold and impatient and makes it clear that she does not wish to be silenced. “I asked you very direct question. You could at least have the courtesy to answer it. I think a lot of viewers, and possible voters, would like to hear what you have to say on the matter.”

“That’s my girl! You bulldog! Rrrrrip him to pieces!!” Nora shouts.

“Miss Walker, considering that you have a gay brother I can understand…”
“Oh, please, don’t make this about me.. or my gay brother. I think that your gay brother might not exactly appreciate being denied marriage either.” Kitty snaps back.

“Oh, oh.” Chad sits up, pushes the bag of candy away and grabs his phone to call Jason.

Robert gets really annoyed now. He doesn’t mind if people have an issue with him, he didn’t go into politics to make friends, but targeting Jason is another thing entirely.
“I would appreciate it, if you would not start unfounded rumors about my brother.”

“Is she really saying what I thought she was saying?” Jason asks Chad.
“Yes, she just outed you live on tv.” Chad replies worried.

“Unfounded? Not really. I personally saw him kissing another man and it wasn’t just a misplaced sign of affection, it was a long and deliberate kiss.” Kitty replies.

“Oh, no!” Chad wipes his face with his hands.
“I told you not to kiss me! ... Oh, God, Robert is going to kill me.”

“You’re lying.” Robert says, without even blinking. He cannot believe that Kitty would spread such vicious rumors about his brother to win an argument, but what’s even worse is that this Miss Walker seems to believe she’s right. “My brother is not gay.”

“Oh, yes, he is.” Chad says.

“Sorry, but he is.” Kevin replies.
“How do you know?” Scotty asks.

“Yes, he is…” Her anger at being called a liar is now added to her anger over being ignored. “And I can imagine that your family is not very happy with his choice of partner …”

“No, they won’t be.” Jason shakes his head.

“And who, according to you, would this partner be?” Robert asks, amazed by Kitty’s positiveness.

“No. No. No. No.” Chad begs.

“Chad Barry, ….”

“Shit!” Chad exclaims from the bottom of his heart.

“…. who happens to be a porn-actor, although mostly retired from the business to produce his own adult movies.” Kitty immediately replies and with so much certainty that Robert believes her to be either right or insane. But he knows his brother is just not gay. If he would have been, Robert would certainly have known about it.

“Wait! Our Jason is a McCallister?” Jordan frowns.
“The brother of Senator Homophobe?” Scotty asks.
“Yes.” Kevin replies. “Chad told me. He is a McCallister…And gay…. And in the closet ... And a minister…. And a Democrat....”
“Poor guy.” And Justin whistles in sympathy.

“I will not listen to any further accusations being made at my brother’s address. I demand an apology and I would appreciate it if you take back what you said.”

“Fat chance.” Julia shakes her head.
“None whatsoever.” Tommy agrees.

“I cannot do that. I’m not apologizing for telling the truth.”

“And you shouldn’t never have to, honey.” Nora nods.

“I will not accept that you continue to spread a lie.” Robert says stiffly.

“Chad, I’m in deep trouble.” The phone trembles in Jason’s hand.

“It’s not a lie. It’s the truth.” Kitty replies.

“Jase, if you need a place to hide, let me know. I’m right here.” Chad soothes.

“This interview ends here. I’m no longer participating. And you, miss Walker, you will hear from my lawyers. I will not accept this slander.” And Robert gets up, removes his microphone and leaves the stage.

“Oh, no! I can’t let him do that.” Jason’s eyes fill with the tears as he realizes he can no longer withhold the truth.

“Slander?.. Fine! Sue me! Let’s see who speaks the truth here.” Kitty says, loud enough to be heard, but also with enough dignity to not make it sound like a screaming-match.

“Don’t worry, sis, I’ll get you the best lawyer I can find.” Kevin promises the tv.

The camera turns to Warren, who smiles a bit confused.
“And we’ll see you back after this break...?” He says weakly.
