Emily Craft, without hesitation, takes Nora to her kitchen, where Nora watches her make tea. Calm movements. Emily talks to her. Is surprised to see her. Isn’t it warm today? Hopes that Nora had a safe drive over here. Did she still remember exactly where Emily lived? It had been such a long time.

Nora hums her answers on automatic pilot, because she starts to feel dazed.
“Come, honey. Let’s sit in the garden.” Emily suggests and she gives Nora the tray with the cups, the sugar and some cinnamon cookies. “Follow me.” She orders, taking the tea-pot with her.

Nora follows. She vaguely feels that Emily needs a gardener. The garden is a mess, but then she remembers that Emily’s free spirit, makes that Emily hardly takes anything out of her garden, unless she feels she has no choice. This means that Emily leads her to a nice little open space amongst the, way too high, plants.

The place is covered with bamboo-curtains to give them a fairly insect-free space where they can sit.
“My favourite place to read.” Emily replies. “In my jungle, without being harassed by bees, flies and other flying, stinging insects. The crawlers I can’t keep away from my haven.

They’re everywhere in my garden. I’ve told all insects that they can have all of the garden, but this little space is mine. In here, I rule. One would assume they’d spread the news amongst themselves, but no-o-o-o. There are always those who will boldly come in here... and get crushed.”

Nora’s vivid imagination conjures up an image of a congregation of insects discussing the living-arrangements in this garden, with that ‘big one’ over there, a fly pointing over his shoulder towards Emily ... and she starts to laugh at the idea, feeling like she’s snapping out of her nearly zombie-like state.

“Now, that’s what I wanna see. A smile on that pretty face of yours.” Emily says and Nora smiles. Emily has this low, pleasant voice and a way of speaking that always make her sound like she’s suggesting some indecent proposal, even if she just says ‘goodmorning’.

“And if there’s anyone who could put it there, it’s you, Emily.” She replies. Emily bows her head. She knows Nora better than anyone else. She can see that Nora is very upset, she seems so fragile, broken and yet ... in a fighting spirit as well. Interesting. She watches Nora sip the tea.
“So, honey.... why are you here? What happened?” Emily then asks.

Tyler puts down her cup of coffee.
“That is a harsh.” She says with a frown.
“So, now you see, why I’m not comfortable with the idea of being home.” Justin replies.
“If my dad would talk like that about someone I loved and lost....” Tyler starts.

She is unable to finish the sentence, because she cannot imagine her father ever being that mean to her or about someone else.
“I’m glad I’m out of that house. It was such a relief to live here with Jordan. He’s crazy in a good way and I need that. My father is like a black hole, he destroys everything in his radius.”

Julia opens her eyes just in time to see Tommy walk away from the doctor.
“What did he say?” She asks when he comes in. Tommy smiles at her.
“That you’re physically alright. There is no reason to believe that you cannot get pregnant again.”
“Except I won’t ... get pregnant again.”

*Never say never, sweetheart.” Tommy takes her hand and kisses it. “Right now is not the time to discuss it. You’ve just lost our baby. The wound is still fresh. The pain is still too immediate... But who knows... in a few months...?”
“You won’t be able to get me pregnant.” Julia says almost accusatory. Tommy winces.

Julia feels instantly guilty, when she sees the pain on his face.
“I’m sorry, that is not what I meant. I mean, I agree it’s too soon to discuss this, but whatever we decide for the future, the child can never be yours. We can adopt or look for other options, but ... the child will not be a Walker.”

“Does that matter to you?” Tommy wonders.
“No, not really. I wouldn’t mind if we ... in time... would adopt a child, but your father will never accept it as a Walker.” Tommy nods, that he understands her words.
“No... But you know what? ... I don’t care what he wants to accept or not.”

“Are you sure?” Julia is astounded by Tommy’s words, that he of all people would turn his back on William takes her by surprise.
“I’ve had a lot of time to think while I was sitting here, watching over you, waiting for you to wake up again... Jules, I love you more than anything else in my life.

My father’s words hurt you and me and our baby. I will not let him hurt us again. He is not the most important person in my life. ... You are.... And when you’re ready to think about having a child again... in whichever way we can.... I’ll be ready too and I’ll be right here with you.... No matter how much my father disapproves....”

Emily whistles when Nora finally stops talking. Nora has made herself as small as possible on the couch. She’s holding on to her cup of tea as if her life depends on it.
“I don’t know what to say.” Emily finally reacts.
“Well, that’s a first.” Nora replies rolling her eyes. They both smile.

“What will you do now?”
“Divorce him. Bleed him dry. Kill him. Maim him.... Something awful and painful.”
“Can I watch?”
“Emily!.... Of course you can watch... but you’re supposed to talk me out of this!....”

“Why? ... Oh, right.... but not to fanatical, huh?” Emily jokes. Nora shakes her head, still smiling sadly.
“God, I wish it didn’t hurt so much. I wish I didn’t love him still.” Nora’s words make Emily nod.

“What had you expected, love? You’ve been married for a very long time....”
“Nearly 40 years. We ... have our anniversary next month.” Nora's lips tremble. She had all these plans to celebrate.
“Nora, if you think, that what you have shared over the last 40 years will simply be wiped away by his cheating, you’re so wrong.”

“I know. I’ve been there before.”
“He is your husband, the father of your kids, even if you divorce him, he will forever be an undeniable part of your life.”
“Oh, sure, depress me even more.” Nora sighs.

“I don’t mean to depress you, I just want you to be realistic. William is not going to go away. If you divorce him, he’ll chase after you again. He’ll want you back. To him, his republican mind, you’re his property.”
“Not unless our divorce means that he can freely hop into bed with the Blonde One.”

“Yeah.” Emily sighs. “It could be your kids will get another ‘mommy’.”
“Alright that’s it! I’m going over there and shoot his head off....  And hers too!”
“No! Hun, if I believed it would accomplish anything,  I’d take that gun...”

Emily points at the rifle of her late husband in the weapons-cabinet. “.. and go right with you... and shoot him, just in case you miss.... But, sweetheart, you have your kids to think of... And your grand-children.... You know what? I’ll shoot him while you’re in a restaurant. Like that you have an alibi.” She suggests.

“You’re crazy.” Nora cannot help but laugh and cry at the same time.
“Yes.... And I’m worried about you... I think you need time out... Why don’t you stay here a few days?”
“Em, I didn’t bring anything with me. No clothes, nothing. Just an overnight bag in case I had to stay in Ojai.”

“It’s alright, I got everything you could need. Come on, call one of your kids. Tell them I broke my ankle and that I need you. They won’t ask further questions. It’ll be fun, I promise. Just us girls again.” Nora wonders if she should do it, but Emily looks so hopeful and she feels such a need to stay away from William, that she says yes, before she realizes.

Kevin and Scotty look around the hotel-room to make sure they didn’t forget anything. It makes them a bit sad to leave this wonderful room, with a jacuzzi, but it’s time to get back to the real world. As they wait for the elevator Kevin turns to Scotty to say:
“I’ve decided to take your advice.”

“Which one?”
“To not talk to my dad just yet. If it’s really alright with you....?” Scotty nods quietly at Kevin ‘s question. “Good, because he is not the most important person in my life. ... You are and my dad is like this black hole, he’ll destroy us if he can and I’m not in the mood to fight.”

“No... So stop pretending. You want something from me.”
