... "50 greatest gay tv-characters" on the site-formerly-known-as-AfterElton. I still have a love-hate relationship with that site. The quality is dwindling more and more, but much to my surprise K&S actually made it to the list.

16 Kevin
25 Scotty

Nothing new. The 'usual suspects' were in the top 10.

Sad to see 'Steven Carrington' missing from the list though.

I saw that. When I read what they wrote about Scotty,I thought they will avoid Kevin altogether. They favor Scotty strongly at that site.I have read some reviews and they act nasty to Kevin with no apparent reason.I mean scenes which are meant to be funny (I remember a Kevin/cooper scene from the last episode) are twisted around and given a completely different take.
Who is Steven Carrington?

I agree about the nastiness towards Kevin and if I set that off against the way they nearly cannonize Scotty (Scotty is inches away from becoming Saint Scotty) I also almost gave up on looking for Kevin upthread. (glad I did though).

Though I have to wonder who wrote that bit on Kevin, because it was actually 'nice' for AE-terms.

Steven Carrington was a character in the show "Dynasty". He was one of Blake Carrington's sons and he was gay, though the writers fought that concept all the way. They had his lover killed, accidentally, but still for homophobic reasons (and the murder got swept under the rug) He was unsuccessfully married/engaged to several women before finding the love of his life, who ended up getting killed in the infamous 'Moldavian massacre'. In all a sad character who was played by Al Corley (1981-82) and Jack Coleman (1982-88). Though the 1st version hit me more than the 2nd one. Al Corely just played Steven more 'vulnerable'.

I have not seen Dynasty.May be too old for the afterelton crowd.Seeing the 'Glee' prominence I would say most of the voters are young.

**** May be too old for the afterelton crowd. ****

Yes, I think that may be it. The character had quite an impact on me when I was a teenager early 1980s, but I agree that it must be age. Maybe it's also the reason why I no longer feel so 'connected' to the site anymore.

OMG! I loved him! And yes, the first version was sooo much better than the second one. I vividly remember that being one of the first openly gay characters on TV at the time. But of course, he could not have a happy life. Such was the standard at the time. (Which is why I don't much like Brokeback Mountain, btw. It perpetuates age-old stereotypes about gay men.)

I haven't looked who else was on this list, only blindly and trustingly followed your links. I liked what was written there. It made me laugh and even an awww escaped my lips. It made me remember, that I should write/finish something for them some time soon.

(and I should apologize, I didn't come around to read your AU yet. But I will. I promise. I'm just so busy right now)

hugs to you :)

I haven't bothered much with the othes either, just flicked through everything until I saw Luke Macfarlane. I didn't really Kevin would be on the list, to be honest. Scotty is worshipped to death on the site, so I expected him to be there. I was actually curious how high John Barrowman got, that's why I ran into Matthew as well. I was really surprised. And imagine my even bigger shock when the site actually had something 'not-too-venomous' to say about him... :)

I am glad they are in this list, i often think Kevin and Scotty deserve much more .............

The predictability-rate on that site is pretty high. Nearly every poll is won by the Glee boys, John Barrowman, Neil Patrick Harris and Adam Lambert. It's really pointless to look at the top 5-10. It's usually them with a certain variation.

For me most of their polls begin at number 11. THAT is where the real shockers can be found. :D
